Parent-taught 

Drive Right Parent-led

1. Eligibility Requirements

 A. Student:
     1.  Possess Instruction Permit
     2. Age 14-21
     3. In legal custody of teaching parent
     4. Attending public, accredited nonpublic school or receiving homeschool education under chapter 299A

 B. Parent:
      1. Must be parent, guardian, or legal custodian of student
      2. Possess a valid Iowa driver's license
      3. Clear driving record for 2 years

2. Online Course;
     Complete an IDOT approved online class (30 hours).

3. Driving:
     1. Complete 30 hours of driving instruction.
     2. Use log or driving app


4. No​ certified instructor 



5. Submit Applications and Documents to IDOT

6. Receive an certificate of completion

7. Schedule a DRIVING TEST with the IDOT.

      2. Possess a valid driver's license


2. Drive Right IDOT Approved Online Class (30 hours)

     1. Complete 5 hours of driving lessons
         A. Detailed & educational lessons
         B. Easy to facilitate
         C. Quality that works
         D. Develop safe driving habits 

4. Certified Instructor
  Driver's Education Teacher with 20 years of experience &
   25 years of experience as a Law Enforcement Officer 
     -always available to answer your questions and provide 
      guidance.  

​5.  Additional driving lessons
     with Drive Right Instructor are available

6.  Driving evaluation with Drive Right Instructor

7.  Receive an IDOT certificate of completion

8. Schedule an appointment to get your SMRL or
    Intermediate License

9. NO IDOT test required with successful completion.
