2. Driving Lessons
Your driving lessons were attached in the syllabus email. You may complete a maximum of 1 hour of driving lessons per day. You may print out the lessons or use them electronically. They are for your reference. You may complete 1 hour per day with your child.
Important Guidelines:
1. Only one hour of driving per day (2 lessons).
2. Only 2 video assignments created per day.
3. Driving videos must be created when you are actually completing each lesson.

Please complete these lessons in the next 45 days (from beginning your online classes.

Driving Lessons and Videos Checklist
Please complete the attached Driving Lessons and Videos Checklist as your complete lessons. This is a simple checklist of lessons completed. Once completed, you may scan or send a picture of the form by text or email.
Video Assignments:
The video assignments are a requirement of the Iowa Department of Transportation. The assignments provide accountability of the completion of each driving lesson. Each driving lesson has a short video assignment (10 total). Each video should be 30-60 seconds in length. You may only complete TWO video assignments per day. The student shall be recorded while driving.
Driving videos may be short and simple (30-60 seconds).
Commentary Driving
Students should use some commentary driving to help them process what they are thinking as they perform each driving task or to state some rules of the road.
Video Assignments:
1 Lane Change
Students will complete a lane change while making (driving) a lane change.
2 Right of Way at All Way Stop
Students will provide commentary on the rules of right of way at an all way stop. Students will encounter (drive) an intersection with an all way stop, providing commentary of the traffic situation.
3 Parallel Parking
Students will successfully complete the steps of parallel parking.
4 Left Turn at Traffic Light
Students will complete a left turn at a traffic light.
5 Safe Approach to Traffic Light
Students will provide commentary on how they should approach a traffic light safely, predicting the light will change while using the coast and cover technique.
6 IPDE Process on Rural Highway
Students will provide commentary on how to use the IPDE (Identify, Predict, Decide, and Execute) while driving on a rural highway.
7 Expressway Entrance
Students will complete safe entry to an expressway(controlled access highway.
8 School Route with commentary of the Rules of School Permit (for students getting Intermediate License)
Students will provide commentary on some of the rules of the school permit while practicing the driving of their route to school.
8 Alternate Assignment to School Route Video: School Bus Rules
(for students getting the Intermediate License)
Students will encounter a school bus stopped to pick up or drop off a student. Students will provide commentary on the rules.
9 Rules for Safety on a Gravel Road
Students will provide commentary on safely driving on a gravel road (speed, position, IPDE).
10 Safely Driving through a Curve
Students will complete the safe maneuver through a curve, providing commentary of speed/coast if necessary, aiming at yellow (left) or white (right) lines.
Procedures for Driving Lessons and Videos
1. Complete your driving lessons and video assignments within 45 days of registering.
2. The videos provide accountability that the student is completing the driving lessons.
3. Complete only 1 hour of driving lessons per day.
4. Complete only 1 to 2 videos per day.
5. Parents and students should review the lessons together before driving.
6. Complete each video assignment as you complete the driving lesson.
7. The student may speak out loud (commentary driving) what they are seeing (Scan & identify), thinking
(Predict & Decide), and doing (Execute).
8. Parents may use Q & A to prompt student commentary.
9. Videos and commentary may be simple. Each video shall approximately be 30-60 seconds in length.
10. Creating a video:
a. State the student's name and date.
b. Record the view through the windshield
c. Student completes the driving of the
assigned task.
11. Once all 10 videos are complete, submit by text (641-750-2626), or email ([email protected]),
12. Schedule your instructor lesson/evaluation if you have not already done so. It is allowable to complete your instructor lesson/evaluation drive before you have completed online classes.

Once all 10 video assignments are complete, please submit them to me in one of the following methods: Remember only 2 lessons can be completed per day so ONLY 2 Video Assignments may be created per day.
